Welcome home, Leon Taffy Cutie Pants!

We are so excited to share the silly story of how we, a family convinced we’d never own a feline, did!

Let me start by saying the obvious & universally-relatable: this has been a stressful year for us. And this is our (especially my) silver (well, golden, actually), lining.

We had a completely typical morning. Overslept a little, a couple grumpy attitudes. Nick is about to head out the door to the office, and I’m about to start another day of homeschool. (We take it easy in the summer.)

Just as we’re about to say goodbye, we hear loud meowing. Nick stops mid-sentence and looks out the kitchen window to see a cute little golden tabby meowing away!

My jaw drops–what in the world?? A cat meowing for us to come out? Or to come in? He was probably begging for food (and we learned that he had visited our awesome neighbors for a few days and got some food from them).

Nick said he’s just making the rounds, but I couldn’t get over how friendly he was. The girls and I INSTANTLY fell in love with this cutie!

He looks a little rough, but otherwise okay. We put out a post to see if anyone was missing him, because surely, someone has to. He’s too sweet to be feral.

After receiving no claims, and searching local missing cat forums, the possibility of keeping him is on the horizon!

I reached out to my amazing friend Monica, who works at the Tyranena Vet Clinic, and ask if she could take a look at him and make sure he’s healthy. If the kitty sticks around until his appointment, we’ll be able to keep him.

And he did! We take him in, the vet looks him over & cleans him up, and we welcome him home. In the meantime, we had gotten the kitty everything he needed to be happy with us at home.

After getting him on some quality food, lots of love, and a second vet visit, he’s has a clean bill of health, and a home full of girls that are obsessed with him! His bald spots are furry again, his ears are clean, and his fur softens by the day.

So, welcome to the fam, Leon Taffy Cutie Pants Rome! You are a perfect addition! We love your chill attitude, constant chatty-ness, and sweet snuggles.

Now, we just need another perfect stray to wander into our backyard <3
